HAVANA, Cuba, Jan 11 (ACN) The Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) stressed today on its official website that the Cuban delegation to the 16th Congress of the Polisario Front, scheduled for January 13-17 in Algeria, will ratify the country’s firm support of its struggle for independence and sovereignty.
According to the report, the delegation headed by Central Committee member Yudí Rodríguez Hernández will convey a message from the Cuban party and people stating their solidarity with the Polisario Front, the national liberation movement of Western Sahara, founded in May 1973.
The Cuban party leader paid tribute this morning to the martyrs of the Algerian war of independence at the monument known as El Maqam Echahidç. Her program also includes visits to the provinces where the Sahrawi refugee camps are located and meetings with authorities of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR).
The Congress will be held in Tindouf, 1,466 kilometers from Algiers, in camps housing more than 170,000 Saharawi refugees, with more than 300 delegates from Latin America, Africa, the Middle East and Europe and with representatives of political parties, diplomats and solidarity groups.
