Cuba marks electrical worker's day

CIENFUEGOS, Cuba, Jan 13 (ACN) The collective of the Carlos Manuel de Cespedes thermoelectric power plant, in Cienfuegos province(central Cuba), was awarded today for its productive and efficiency results, on the Day of the Electrical Worker in Cuba, which is celebrated every January 14.

Maride Fernandez Lopez, member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and first secretary of that political organization in the province, presided over the emotional ceremony.

As part of the celebration, several workers received certificates of recognition for accumulating 40, 30, 25 and 20 years of uninterrupted work in that plant.

The Cienfuegos thermoelectric plant is a model of a socialist state enterprise that has deserved for more than 40 years the status of National Vanguard.

Mayte Yera Santana, general secretary of the Cuban Workers' Federation (CTC by its Spanish acronym) in Cienfuegos, in making the conclusions, said that the members of the electric sector have been able to face the difficulties increased by the tightened economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States government against Cuba, added to the complexity of the world economic order in which we currently live.

Established in 1977, the Electricity Workers' Day commemorates January 14, 1934, when the revolutionary leader Antonio Guiteras Holmes gave the order for the nationalization of the Cuban Electricity Company.
