Five million 332 thousand 591 voters (63.85% of the electoral roll) had cast their ballots in the elections for delegates to the Municipal Assemblies of People's Power by 5:00 p.m. Sunday.

Army General Raul Castro Ruz exercised his right to vote at one of Havana’s polling stations, where he talked briefly with the staff, according to Cuban TV reports.

“This vote is an act of reassertion and vindication of our sovereignty,” said Alpidio Alonso, Cuba's Minister of Culture, “and an autochthonous model of elections tailored to our needs and possibilities”.

Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, exercised his right to vote this morning.

Manuel Marrero Cruz, member of the Political Bureau and Prime Minister of the Republic, said that this Sunday that the elections to elect delegates to the Municipal Assemblies of People's Power are the highest expression of socialist democracy.

About eight million Cubans are called to vote today, at the polls, for those they consider should integrate -as delegates- the Municipal Assemblies of People's Power, a genuine act of democracy and whose transcendence acquires greater dimensions due to the exceptional conditions that the Revolution is living.
