The Executive Board of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization ( UNESCO) is meeting this Friday, and Cuba is participating as a Member State of that body, which is made up of 58 countries.

The Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs released an statement calling the world to put aside political differences to fight the COVID-19 pandemic that has infected over 2 million people worldwide and killed over 140 thousand.

Bruno Rodriguez, Cuban Foreign Minister, affirmed that the United States' decision to suspend funds to the World Health Organization (WHO) is an attack on the international community.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi reiterated his country's position to support Cuba in confronting the new coronavirus, while signifying the capacity of the Caribbean island to combat the pandemic.

A second Cuban medical brigade, made up of 38 health professionals, departed on Sunday for Piedmont, Italy, to help combat the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic in one of the most affected regions of the European country.

For the first time, a Cuban medical brigade will arrive in the Republic of Togo, in Africa, after the government of that country requested the presence of Cuban health professionals to combat COVID-19.

Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla, Cuban foreign minister, ratified this Thursday the island's full support to the World Health Organization (WHO by its Spanish acronym) and its director general Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, as well as to the work of the Organization in the fight against COVID-19.

Nicaragua received an additional 8,000 doses of Interferon Alpha 2B, produced by the Cuban Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (CIGB by its Spanish acronym), the government of that Central American nation confirmed in a press release.

The United Nations General Assembly recently approved the Resolution entitled "Global solidarity to fight the 2019 coronavirus disease (COVID-19)", which was proposed by a group of countries, including Switzerland and Liechtenstein, and co-sponsored by Cuba.
The text, which was adopted by tacit consensus, is a call for unity, solidarity and international cooperation to tackle this pandemic, which has caused considerable loss of life and suffering, reports the Cubaminrex website.
