HAVANA, Cuba, April 21 (ACN) Friends and progressive organizations in South Africa organized various activities to commemorate the 65th anniversary of the Bay of Pigs victory, in support of Cuba and its sovereignty, according to the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Marches in front of U.S. consulates to denounce the U.S. blockade took place in Johannesburg and Durban under the slogan "Cuba is not alone", whereas discussions were held in forums such as The Forge in Johannesburg and the Castle of Good Hope in Cape Town, in addition to a virtual seminar prepared by solidarity groups to talk about the popular resistance of April 1961 under the guidance of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz, as well as about the historical continuity of the people's struggle against imperialism.
These actions respond to the traditional support for the Cuban people in South Africa and the bonds of cooperation that have united both countries since the fight against apartheid, and come as reaffirmation that the Bay of Pigs victory remains a powerful symbol of resistance that inspires people in their defense of justice and independence.
