With the participation of more than 650,000 workers and their families, Santiago de Cuba celebrated today the heroism of the people, in remembrance of the World Day of the Proletariat and the 70th anniversary of the assault on the Moncada Garrison.

The participation and popular joy was evident today in different parts of the country in celebration of International Workers' Day, which was attended by Army General Raul Castro Ruz, leader of the Cuban Revolution, and Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic.

Reports of celebrations by the Cuban proletariat for May 1st, International Workers' Day, are coming in from different parts of the national territory at this hour.

 More than 120,000 workers in Villa Clara are joining this Friday the main activities for the 1st of May in Cuba, in a day marked by parades, public events and cultural activities in all the territories of the country.

With the presence of Army General Raul Castro Ruz, leader of the Cuban Revolution, and Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez, first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) and president of the country, the main event on the occasion of the celebrations for the International Workers' Day has just begun.

Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla, Cuban foreign minister, sent condolences to the people and government of Rwanda for the loss of human lives and the considerable damages caused by the heavy rains and flash floods that hit several regions of the country.

The signing Thursday in Havana of a memo of understanding to implement the “Russian-Cuban Investment Initiative” put an end to the visit here by Maksim S. Oreshkin, Russia’s presidential advisor for economic affairs and a delegation of business people and officials from that nation.

Japan and Cuba have shared exemplary and mutually respectful relations over the years, free of any foreign pressures, said Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel after welcoming the general secretary of Japan’s Liberal Democratic Party Motegi Toshimitsu on Thursday at the Revolution Palace.

 Ricardo Cabrisas Ruiz, deputy prime minister of the Republic of Cuba and Minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment, received today in Havana Motegi Toshimitsu, Secretary-General of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) of Japan, who is paying an official visit to the Island.

Elba Rosa Pérez Montoya, Cuba's Minister of Science, Technology and the Environment (CITMA), met with Sultan al-Jaber, president of the 28th Summit of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 28) to discuss issues of common interest.

Local political authorities and mass organization leaders welcomed the 240-plus members of the 16th Contingent of the International May Day Brigade of Voluntary Work and Solidarity with Cuba, one of the largest groups of foreign supporters of Cuba, who are visiting this city founded in 1514 by the Spanish colonizers.
