SANTIAGO DE CUBA, Cuba, Jul 30 (ACN) Residents of this city paid tribute to the martyrs of the Revolution and commemorated the burial of Frank País and Raúl Pujols, assassinated 66 years ago by tyrant Batista’s hit men.
A large crowd headed by the music band of the Eastern Army walked to the cemetery through the same streets that once witnessed the actions of these and many other underground fighters.
In statements to the press, several participants stressed the importance of honoring those who gave their lives for Cuba and made freedom possible and remarked that the Revolution will always be able to count on the new generations to protect those achievements.
On July 26, 1959, in the former Moncada Barracks, the Council of Ministers declared July 30 as the Day of the Martyrs of the Cuban Revolution in honor of those who fell in the struggle.
