Cuba to debut at 2022 ICF Canoe-Kayak Sprint World Cup
Havana, Cuba, May 20 (ACN) The five Cuban athletes who will participate in the speed canoeing and kayaking World Cup will debut today on the first day of the contest, scheduled to take place until next Sunday in Racice, Czech Republic.
Led by Serguei Torres, Tokyo 2020 Olympic champion in the two-seater (C-2) at a thousand meters, all will have action Friday in preliminaries.
Torres, this time, will do it in the single-seater (C-1) at a thousand meters, and will be in the third heat of the modality, so it will be one of the main attractions for fans and specialists.
Jose Ramón Pelier, also an Olympian, will have more activity, since he will row in the C-1 at a thousand meters -first heat- and in the C-2 at 500 meters -fourth heat-, in the latter for the first time in international tournaments and he will do it in the company of Thabaini Dieguez Alvarez, a debutant at this level.
For their part, Yarisleidis Cirilo and Khaterine Nuevo, present in Tokyo, will first compete in the C-2 at 500 meters -first heat- and then in the C-1 at 200 meters for the first and third heats, in that order.
Without taking into account the possible advancement of these canoes to the following phases of their respective modalities, on Saturday Cirilo and Nuevo will return to the aquatic track in the C-2 at 200 meters, and as announced by its organizers, it will be in the final A – direct-.
The same thing will happen on Sunday, the last day of the World Cup, with Torres and Pelier, since they will seek medals in the final A -direct- in the five thousand meters, the canoeing breath-hold test and that is not in the Olympic program.
