The Cuban Academy of Sciences (ACC by its Spanish acronym)expressed its condolences for the recent death at the age of 88 of Emilio Garcia Capote, one of the country's first analysts on issues of scientific and technological policy and its relations with economic and social development.

As a result of scientific work in the institutions belonging to the Ministry of Higher Education (MES by its Spanish acronym) during 2023, more than 1,300 projects were developed, which contributed to national, sectoral, territorial and business programs.

Concepción Campa Huergo, receiver of the degree of Doctor honoris causa from of the University of Havana, was granted the Pro Patria Award, established in 2022 by the Economic Society of Friends of the Country (SEAP) for outstanding scientific groups who excelled in the fight against COVID-19.

The farmer Orelvis Peñate Mesa is working on the construction of an oil extraction plant with the capacity to produce more than 9,000 liters per year from soybean processing, in the Hermanos Ameijeiras Popular Council, belonging to the municipality of Placetas, in the central province of Villa Clara.

Cuba has made progress in 2023 with a view to eliminating all hydrochlorofluorocarbon (HCFC) gases by 2030, and is drawing up a plan to do the same with chlorofluorocarbons, widely used in refrigeration, foams and aerosols, and in the production of new products .
