Santiago de Cuba, Jan 4 (ACN) While marking 40 years of the Family Doctor and Nurse Program, local authorities in this eastern province stressed the achievement of family medicine, including a stable epidemiological scenario during 2023
The provincial director for medical assistance, medications and technology, Miguel Angel Diaz, said the province counts on the necessary medical personnel for all one thousand and 98 local doctor’s offices as well as specialists in remote areas.
Diaz stressed the growing implementation of alternative, traditional medicine in primary medical attention and the certification of new medical doctors.
The president of the Family Medicine chapter in Santiago, Yuri Alvarez, said that several scientific events took place in 2023 to guarantee the training of local doctors and nurses.
Designed by the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution Fidel Castro, the family medicine program in Santiago now counts on over 8 thousand doctors and nurses who assist about one million people, including those living on mountainous areas.
