HAVANA, Cuba, Jan 9 (ACN) Up to September 2023, more than 2,600 incidents were detected in Cuba through the National Cybersecurity Center and the Security Operations Center of the Telecommunications Company (Etecsa by its Spanish acronym).
Daniel Ramos Fernandez, director of digital business of that entity, told the CubaSí portal that these events were associated with the occurrence of cyber-attacks of denial of services, sending and receiving unwanted emails, malicious traffic generated by malicious codes, scanning of services and exploitation of vulnerabilities that have compromised websites and other computer elements.
Regarding those linked to natural persons, which accounted for 70 % of the crimes occurred, they are related to cyber-stalking, identity theft, and scams through digital social networks and electronic payment channels, he added.
Ramos Fernandez insisted that the main challenge for 2024 is the implementation of effective actions to create a culture in the safe and responsible use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in managers, specialists and the population.
The specialist emphasized that in cyber-incidents in the entities, violations of information security policies by those responsible for IT security and the users of these technologies are prevalent.
Weak passwords are used and are not changed in a timely manner; personnel visit unsecured websites and system software or applications are not updated when necessary, he explained.
We must promote the creation of state cybersecurity entities that provide comprehensive solutions and increase the provision of services in the different sectors and, as a priority, accompany the process of bankarization with high levels of security in the technological organizations involved, Ramos Fernandez concluded.
