HAVANA, Cuba, Jan 23 (ACN) As a result of scientific work in the institutions belonging to the Ministry of Higher Education (MES by its Spanish acronym) during 2023, more than 1,300 projects were developed, which contributed to national, sectoral, territorial and business programs.
The main achievements impact priority areas such as food and nutritional security, energy, environmental protection, biomedicine, local development, public policies, digital transformation, construction and water resources, Granma newspaper reported today.
Ondina Leon Diaz, general director of Research and Postgraduate Studies of the MES, said that more than 400 of these projects contribute to local development.
Higher Education institutions in the country, she added, have a high scientific-technological potential, which is expressed in the management of knowledge and in the results achieved.
She pointed out that one of the main contributions is reflected in the expert knowledge demanded by the government system, through participation in temporary groups, technical advisory councils, the National Innovation Council and other governing bodies, and also noted that the university-business link is currently stronger.
Leon Diaz highlighted the technological advances applied in the use of renewable energy sources with local impact and in energy efficiency.
She also highlighted the link between the Ministry of Energy and Mines and the universities, through the National Group of Universities (Gnufre by its Spanish acronym), which contribute with their knowledge for the design of the energy transition towards renewable energy sources and its national policy.
