SANTA CLARA, Cuba, Jan 3 (ACN) The farmer Orelvis Peñate Mesa is working on the construction of an oil extraction plant with the capacity to produce more than 9,000 liters per year from soybean processing, in the Hermanos Ameijeiras Popular Council, belonging to the municipality of Placetas, in the central province of Villa Clara.
During the assembly process, the hammer mill, two solar dryers and the factory imported for the price of 15,000 dollars from Colombia have been installed, with an estimated completion date of August 2024, Peñate Mesa told the Cuban News Agency.
He added that he and the farmer Santiago Cuellar Magdaleno decided to invest that amount of money from the payment of the tobacco plantations to fulfill the dream of seeing the La Granjita project materialize.
The farmer pointed out that on the La Valet farm he obtains yields of two and a half tons of soybeans per hectare, with the application of science to achieve more than 400 quintals per year.
He also pointed out that the high protein content of the feed, together with the cassava, makes it possible to obtain fodder for about 1,000 hens, another of La Granjita's goals, where local women will also have a source of employment.
It is currently a necessity to increase soybean production in Cuba, as a strategy for the country's food and nutritional sovereignty, one of the Cuban government's guidelines.
