New microgrid helps Havana save power

HAVANA, Cuba, Jan 4 (ACN) The inauguration in this city of a solar microgrid in 2922 contributed to the promotion of research and development in, and to the energy self-sufficiency of, its host institution.

The Center for Information Management and Energy Development (CUBAENERGIA) announced that it has proved to be one of the renewable technologies with great potential for application, given Cuba's geographical location and considerable solar radiation.

Deployed as part of the project Development of Microgrids in Cuba and titled Integrated control system for energy supply through hybrid systems in isolated communities in Cuba - Phase II, the program was funded by the Spanish Agency of International Cooperation for Development (AECID) and the Centro de Investigaciones Energéticas Medioambientales y Tecnológicas (CIEMAT) of Spain, together with the NGO Solidaridad para el Desarrollo y la Paz (SODEPAZ), the Bornay company, and Sociedad Cubana para la Promoción de las Fuentes Renovables de Energía y el Respeto Ambiental (CUBASOLAR).

The installation of this microgrid has also paved the way for joint research, as evidenced by the studies research, which is evident in the studies to evaluate the drop in solar power generation due to air pollution in specific areas.
