The Abdala vaccine candidate against COVID-19, developed by the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (CIGB), will complete this week the administration of the third dose to all volunteers as part of phase 3 of clinical trials, an expert announced today in Havana.

Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez, first secretary of the central committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and president of the Republic, reported on Monday on Twitter about a large-scale forest fire in the Alejandro de Humboldt National Park, located in Holguin and Guantanamo provinces.

The Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment of Cuba (CITMA by its Spanish acronym) recognized today the work of the Office of Industrial Property of the country (OCPI), on the occasion of the celebration of the World Intellectual Property Day this April 26.

Cuba’s Health Ministry announced that the first stage of the massive vaccination against COVID 19 will kick off in Havana next month with the home ground vaccines Soberana 02 and Abdala.

“Many people don’t take the pandemic serious till they get infected or when their relatives get sick,” said young mother Thalya Perdomo whose one-year daughter got the SARS-CoV-2 virus last December.

Nearly a few days short of the completion of the third and final phase of the Abdala vaccine candidate trials in the city of Guantánamo, the clinical exercise continues without a hitch. Its success will lay the foundation of the large-scale administration of a vaccine to the Cuban population.

Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez warned today on Twitter that Cuban scientists have established a growing presence in the country of the COVID-19 variant discovered in South Africa.

More clinical-epidemiological measures to contain COVID-19 mortality in Cuba were presented during the weekly meeting of the country's leadership with experts and scientists involved in scientific and technological innovation activities to fight the pandemic.

The Animal Welfare Decree-Law approved in Cuba seeks to guarantee favorable living conditions for these species, which is why the Labiofam Business Group is working to ensure resources for the production of medicines for veterinary use.
