AICA Laboratories received the authorization to start a clinical trial to evaluate the safety and antiviral effect of the anti-SARS-Cov-2 gamma globulin in severe adult patients with COVID-19.

Cuba reported today 6,460 new infections and 65 deaths due to COVID-19, figures that confirm the continuity of the epidemiological outbreak and the high spread of the disease in the country.

Cuba studied 47,356 samples for COVID 19 during the day, resulting in 6,460 positive ones. A total of 19,198 samples were studied with PCR and 27,994 with antigen. The country accumulated 5,765,259 samples taken and 269,546 positive.
At the close of July 15, a total of 67,993 patients had been admitted, 18,236 suspected, 6,323 under surveillance and 43,434 were confirmed.

The Cuban Health Ministry reported the administration, up to July 13, of over 7.7 million doses of locally developed COVID-19 vaccines.

Faced with the persistently complex situation caused by COVID-19 in the country, we need to keep taking extreme hygienic-sanitary measures, increasing social and individual discipline, and reinforcing the health protocols, Cuban Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz insisted Wednesday at the meeting of the Temporary Working Group for the prevention and control of the pandemic.

Throughout the early stages of the pandemic, Cuba maintained very low figures of prevalence of the new coronavirus, but in June and so far in July, with the expansion of the Delta variant, statistics indicate that the country is no longer an exception with respect to the world.

As Cuba copes with the tension caused by new COVID-19 outbreaks, the province of Guantánamo is expanding its hospital capacities, implementing new health protocols, tightens surveillance among the most vulnerable social sectors, and prepares for the oncoming health intervention in the region.

The Ismaelillo clinical trial with the Abdala vaccine will begin this Thursday in the capital city of Camagüey. It will be carried out in two phases and will include children from three to 18 years of age, and then the immunogen will be applied to children in Cuba.

The Cuban Center for State Control of Medicines, Equipment and Medical Devices approved the phase I/II clinical trial to evaluate the safety and immunogenicity of the vaccine candidate Mambisa -intranasal- and the Abdala vaccine -intramuscular-, a study to boost immunity in convalescents of COVID-19.

Although with a slight decrease in the number of cases diagnosed with COVID-19 and deaths in the last day, the transmission of the virus that causes this disease, SARS-CoV-2, remains high in Cuba, which in the 16 months of the pandemic has infected 250,527 people and accumulated 1,608 deaths.

At the close of July 11, Cuba had already administered 7,507,406 doses of the Cuban anti-COVID-19 vaccine candidates, the ministry of public health reported.

In Cuba 38,721 samples were taken for surveillance during the day, 5,613 of which were positive. With PCR test 17,408 samples and with antigen 21,313 people were studied. The country accumulated 5,628,936 samples taken and 250,527 positive.

Marta Ayala Avila, general director of the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (CIGB by its Spanish acronym), informed today that Cuba is working on vaccine variants in the face of the appearance of new strains of the SARS-CoV-2.

Despite the discrediting campaign generated in recent days to question Cuba's fight against COVID-19 pandemic, the Cuban health system has managed to cure more than 80 % of the people that got the disease and two thirds of the patients seriously ill, said Cuban president Miguel Diaz-Canel today.
