The vaccine candidate Mambisa enters the global list of nasal immunogens that advance to the clinical trial phase, according to Gerardo Guillen Nieto, Director of Biomedical Research of the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (CIGB by its Spanish acronym).

Cuba studied 47,356 samples for COVID 19 during the day, resulting in 6,460 positive ones. A total of 19,198 samples were studied with PCR and 27,994 with antigen. The country accumulated 5,765,259 samples taken and 269,546 positive.
At the close of July 15, a total of 67,993 patients had been admitted, 18,236 suspected, 6,323 under surveillance and 43,434 were confirmed.

Faced with the persistently complex situation caused by COVID-19 in the country, we need to keep taking extreme hygienic-sanitary measures, increasing social and individual discipline, and reinforcing the health protocols, Cuban Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz insisted Wednesday at the meeting of the Temporary Working Group for the prevention and control of the pandemic.

As Cuba copes with the tension caused by new COVID-19 outbreaks, the province of Guantánamo is expanding its hospital capacities, implementing new health protocols, tightens surveillance among the most vulnerable social sectors, and prepares for the oncoming health intervention in the region.

The Cuban Center for State Control of Medicines, Equipment and Medical Devices approved the phase I/II clinical trial to evaluate the safety and immunogenicity of the vaccine candidate Mambisa -intranasal- and the Abdala vaccine -intramuscular-, a study to boost immunity in convalescents of COVID-19.

Marta Ayala Avila, general director of the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (CIGB by its Spanish acronym), informed today that Cuba is working on vaccine variants in the face of the appearance of new strains of the SARS-CoV-2.

Despite the discrediting campaign generated in recent days to question Cuba's fight against COVID-19 pandemic, the Cuban health system has managed to cure more than 80 % of the people that got the disease and two thirds of the patients seriously ill, said Cuban president Miguel Diaz-Canel today.
