Cuba surpassed 10 million doses of anti-COVID-19 vaccines applied, but there is still a long way to go to win the battle, warned today on Twitter the President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez.

With the premise of using all possible spaces, the central Cuban province of Ciego de Avila is applying alternatives to increase admission capacities for patients positive for the SARS CoV-2 virus, which causes the COVID-19 disease, and to reduce the number of those who stay at home.

Cuba today reported 9,629 new positive cases of SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, which causes COVID-19, for a total of 413 thousand 251 confirmed cases since March last year, 88.1 percent (%) of them recovered.

When COVID-19 emerged, the disease was interpreted as a serious respiratory viral infection and, in the first months, the attention of specialists was focused on that aspect, but with the increase of cases and its expansion, it was seen that it was a multisystemic disease, with generalized repercussions in the organism and sequels.

Cuba must continue to seek alternatives so as not to be defeated by the pandemic; we have to defeat it and we have to do it in the shortest possible time, said Cuban president Miguel Diaz-Canel.

The head of the Primary Assistance Department under the Cuban Health Ministry Maria Elena Soto said that some one million 355 thousand Havana citizens had been fully immunized against COVID-19 up to August 1st.

 “I feel in peace and confident in the doctors who have offered me counsel, because this vaccination will help me and my baby to overcome this situation,” said Laura Gonzalez, one of the first pregnant women in arriving at the COVID-19 vaccination center set up at a Havana health care center.

Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez, Cuban president, announced that vaccination with the anti-COVID-19 vaccine, Abdala for all pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers and transplanted people, will begin today throughout the country.

Cuba still registers a very high transmission of COVID-19; with the consequent increase in cases are the deaths and it is really still very tough what we are facing, warned today the national director of epidemiology of the ministry of public health, Francisco Duran.

 As of July 27, the Cuban ministry of public health (MINSAP by its Spanish acronym) reported today that 9,085,122 doses of the Cuban anti-COVID-19 vaccine candidates have been administered. According to MINSAP, to date 3,500,505 people have received at least one dose of one of the Cuban vaccine candidates; of these, 3,48,468 people have already received a second dose and 2,536,149 have received a third one.

Cuba studied 53,469 samples for COVID 19, resulting in 8,607 positive ones. The country accumulates 6, 414,461,461 samples taken and 366,985 positive.

The vaccination against COVID-19 to the population over 19 years of age, which will be extended from tomorrow to the seven municipalities of Matanzas(western province) that have not yet started the immunization, will have the support of more than 400 private drivers, said Roberto Bernal Villena, provincial director of the sector.
