Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez shared today a warning call issued by Cuban Minister of Public Health José Ángel Portal Miranda on the serious danger posed by the Delta strain, a variant of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus.

The COVID-19 forecasts can change if, together with the rise in the number of vaccinated people, every Cuban complies with the measures of social and physical distancing and the rest of the health protocols, said Doctor of Science Raul Guinovart Diaz, dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science of the University of Havana (MATCOM).

In spite of the epidemiological situation, services such as Mobile Telephony and Nauta Hogar are successfully gaining ground in the province of Holguin, where the Territorial Division of the Cuban Telecommunications Company (ETECSA) has extended the number of radio bases to increase data traffic capacity.

Since 1962, Cuba has been the only country in the world where free-of-charge vaccination campaigns are launched every year. The first one, in that year, was the anti-polio vaccine for children. Today, it’s the anti-COVID-19 vaccines developed by Cuban scientists.

 One million 414,755 food modules have been delivered free of charge to an equal number of families in seven provinces and the special municipality of Isla de la Juventud, since their distribution began in early August with donations sent to Cuba by sister nations.

On August 23, 2021, the Federation of Cuban Women will celebrate its 61st anniversary by fulfilling urgent tasks in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic in a country that grows by the day on selfless and creative work and refuses to yield to the U.S. illegal and criminal blockade.

On August 23, 1906, General Alejandro Rodriguez, chief of the Rural Guard, informed President Tomas Estrada Palma of the fulfillment of his order to kill General Quintin Banderas, but his macabre task was not finished: the president demanded that his remains be thrown into a common grave so that he would not have a tomb of his own where he would be remembered and flowers would be placed.

There are no words to thank all the work of Cuban women and mainly, within all their greatness, those in the health sector, said Manuel Marrero Cruz, Cuban prime minister, today in Havana, on the occasion of the 61st anniversary of the Federation of Cuban Women (FMC by its Spanish acronym), which was celebrated on Monday.
