Cuban president attends parliamentary debate on women's advancement

HAVANA, Cuba, Jul 15 (ACN) Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez, first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) and president of the country, will attend today the debate on the updated actions of the National Program for the Advancement of Women at the Havana Convention Center.

Teresa Amarelle Boue, member of the Political Bureau of the PCC Central Committee and Secretary General of the Cuban Women Federation (FMC); Ines Maria Chapman Waugh, Cuban deputy PM; and Arelys Santana Bello, President of the Commission for the Care of Youth, Children, and Women's Equality are also attending the discussions.

Four years after the approval of Presidential Decree 198-2021, this permanent working group of the National People's Assembly (ANPP) analyzes the main results of its implementation, as a previous to the 5th Ordinary Session of the Cuban Parliament, in its 10th Legislature.

This program integrates the Cuban State's agenda for the advancement of women and, in a single document, compiles actions and measures that correspond to the principles and rules recognized in the Constitution of the Republic of Cuba, as well as the international commitments made regarding gender equality.

It promotes actions aimed at achieving greater comprehensiveness and effectiveness in the prevention and elimination of manifestations of discrimination against women; and strengthens the mechanisms and professional capacity of public officials and servants to incorporate gender issues in the development of policies, programs, and the provision of services.

Starting on Monday and continuing today, debates are taking place in the 11 working commissions of the National Assembly of People's Parties (ANPP) to analyze topics such as budget execution for the first half of 2025, the government's program to correct distortions and boost the economy, and other key aspects.
Starting tomorrow, the plenary session of the 5th Period of the 10th Legislature of the highest state body will begin.
