
HAVANA, Cuba, Jul 15 (ACN) Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez, first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) and president of the country, considered the National Program for the Advancement of Women (PAM by its Spanish acronym) a reality that has been tempered by the current circumstances in the country.
During the meeting of the Commission for the Care of Youth, Children, and Women's Equality of the National People's Assembly (ANPP) at the Havana Convention Center, he referred to the existence of certain traits of machismo and patriarchy in current Cuban society.
The President emphasized the need to identify problems like these in defense of the Revolution and its humanistic capacity to resolve these issues with a sense of social justice.
Teresa Amarelle Boue, member of the Political Bureau of the PCC Central Committee and Secretary General of the Cuban Women Federation; Ines Maria Chapman Waugh, Cuban deputy PM, and Arelys Santana Bello, President of the Commission for the Care of Youth, Children, and Women's Equality were also participating in the debate.
During the session, discussions were held regarding the updated actions of the National Action Plan (PAM) and the main results four years after its approval.
The National Program for the Advancement of Women is part of the Cuban State's agenda and, in a single document, compiles actions and measures that correspond to the principles and goals recognized in the Constitution of the Republic.
It also considers the international commitments made regarding gender equality.
After analyzing approximately 86 issues of great impact for the country, the 11 permanent commissions of the Cuban Parliament will conclude their sessions Tuesday to begin the 5th Ordinary Session of the Cuban Parliament, in its 10th Legislature.
