Cuban experts present cooperative alternatives for food production

HAVANA, Cuba, Jul 11 (ACN) Examples of initiatives to breaking US blockade on Cuba and producing food, despite the limitations, through alliances between state entities and new economic players were presented at the Business Connection Day of the Agri-Food Industry Business Group, held on Thursday at the Rancho Boyeros Fair in Havana.

Speaking to representatives from the western region of the country, Antonio Carricarte Corona, president of the Chamber of Commerce of the Republic of Cuba, emphasized that the models presented demonstrate ways to solve priority problems by exploiting previously underutilized installed capacity and importing raw materials.

He described the initial results of productive linkages between self-employed workers and micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) with factories as positive, to achieve sales to the population and serve social sectors, such as health centers, sports, and education.

Juan Carlos Dominguez Marquez, president of the Agrifood Industry Business Group, expressed similar ideas. He urged the expansion of these types of issues and results throughout the country, as there are many business opportunities.

He also called for the identification of the obstacles preventing the widespread adoption of these achievements, which are vital in the current economic circumstances.
