HAVANA, Cuba, July 16 (ACN) At a meeting in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil between Fu Hua, president of the Xinhua news agency, and Marydé Fernández López, member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and deputy chief of its Ideological Department, in the context of the BRICS Media and Think Tank Forum, representatives of Cuban and Chinese media agreed to increase bilateral cooperation also in their field.
Mr. Fu Hua remarked that his agency attaches great importance to its coverage from Cuba, where it works to promote the traditional friendship and understanding shared by both countries and to make the island known in China and the world.
He thanked the Cuban media outlets for their support and their use of Xinhua content and expressed the agency’s willingness to strengthen cooperation through people-to-people exchanges in order to multiply their voices as representatives of the Global South.
On his end, Mr. Fernández highlighted Cuba’s opportunities as a BRICS associate member and thanked the Chinese official for inviting him to the Media Forum.
He remarked that 2025 marks 65 years of Cuba-China relations, throughout which Xinhua has chronicled the Revolution.
Both leaders agreed on the media’s key role in consolidating the political and ideological work developed by the two peoples and its potential to contribute to future professional exchanges.
At the meeting, Xinhua and the Latin American news agency Prensa Latina signed a memorandum of understanding.
