Cuba bolsters governance management with digital transformation



HAVANA, Cuba, July 15 (ACN) The expansion of the services provided by the country’s payment and of the capacity of the dorsal optic fiber network, together with the training of more than 4,300 teachers in digital skills, are major accomplishments of the national digital transformation process.

In the presence of President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, the Cuban parliamentary commissions on Services, Education, Culture, Science, Technology, and Environment reviewed the implementation of the Digital Transformation Policy, the Digital Agenda, and the Strategy for the Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Mayra Arevich Marín, Minister of Communications, highlighted other potential achievements based on the development of technological solutions for digital payments by foreign tourists, a higher number of entities providing cybersecurity services, and the completion of the banking infrastructure migration process.

She also referred to the provision of national and international spaces for discussion, debate, and presentation of scientific papers related to education and the digital economy, and the introduction of AI as a subject in Cuban schools.

The approval of the aforesaid policies and programs by the Council of Ministers has been of benefit to key economic and social processes through the intensive use of new technologies.
