Cuban deputy PM checks program to boost the economy



GUANTANAMO, Cuba, Jul 11 (ACN) Ines Maria Chapman Waugh, Cuban deputy prime minister, assesed the Government Program aimed at correcting distortions and boosting the economy this year as part of her working visit to the easternmost territory.

Chapman Waugh was accompanied by Marta Elena Feito Cabrera, minister of labor and social security; Tatiana Amaran Bogachova, deputy minister of energy and mines; Reinol Delfin Garcia, deputy health minister, among others.

Also participating were Yoel Perez Garcia, first secretary of the Party in Guantanamo; Alis Azahares Torreblanca, Governor; and the directors of the main provincial, municipal, and government agencies.

Reporting on the municipality's results in the final phase, Azahares Torreblanca mentioned that 11 companies are experiencing losses, that the housing plan and the delivery of exportable products are not being fulfilled, and that there are difficulties with the indicators of the Maternal and Child Care Program, with emphasis on mortality.

She mentioned that the territory has reduced its budget deficit by 271 million pesos compared to what was planned to date; 7,662 businesses have QR codes, and 78,413 transactions have been carried out through different payment channels.She also emphasized that work must continue on the use of payment gateways.

Azahares Torreblanca specified that 873 tons (t) of exportable products were delivered, out of a planned 1,120 tons, as well as eight tons of the planned 10 rubles, and that the green coffee and coal deliveries have not been met, while the remaining goods and services are being fulfilled.

The governor emphasized the province's self-sufficiency program, which requires a production of 6,806 tons. To date, 12,264 hectares (ha) have been planted, out of a planned 9,922 hectares.

The program is being met for root vegetables, vegetables, grains, and fruits. However, in agricultural production, compliance is lacking for eggs, honey, and sawn timber.

Also of interest was coffee planting, with 85 % completion, coconut planting at 91 %, and coconut oil production, while the cocoa plan has grown to 105 %, with 71 tons collected out of a planned 73 tons.

In health, 1,328 births were registered as of the end of May, 339 fewer than the previous year.Three maternal deaths were reported, and 19 % of adolescent pregnancies were reported.

In the education sector, 39 children's daycare centers were created, increasing the total capacity by 365 to 1,209 places, benefiting 752 children and 695 mothers.

The province is making progress in recovering its electricity generation capacity and investing in investments, with the construction of five photovoltaic parks and two mini-parks.

Based on the identification of the problems that persist in the province, Chapman Waugh called for municipal efforts to analyze the Government Program to correct distortions and emphasized actions and strategies to counter the drought affecting the province.

She also stressed the importance of reducing adolescent mortality and pregnancy rates, promoting local production, preparing and improving staff, strengthening communication processes, developing science and innovation, and addressing the business system in the province.
