Cuba announces scientific meeting on marine ecosystems

HAVANA, Cuba, July 13 (ACN) A meeting on science and technology for decision-making about marine ecosystems will be held on Tuesday at the Center for Marine Research at the University of Havana.

The main speaker at the event will be Raúl Martell Dubois (Cuba), holder of a PhD in civil engineering in the field of marine hydraulics from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), whose presentation is focused on the analysis of time series and marine-coastal processes, mainly those associated with their regeneration, hydrodynamics, sedimentology, and geomorphology.

Dr. Martell, who is a member of the National Commission for the Knowledge and Use of Biodiversity (CONABIO) in Mexico, won the 2017 award for best article on civil engineering from the College of Civil Engineers of that country.

One of his publications addresses how wave exposure and temperature affect the coral community structure on a regional level in the Cuban archipelago, and he wrote another on Atlantic Hurricane Prediction Using Machine Learning.
