Cuba denounces US demonstration of imperial force

HAVANA, Cuba, August 21 (ACN) Miguel Diaz-Canel, first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) and president of the country, strongly denounced the deployment of US military units in the southern Caribbean, describing this decision by Washington as a new show of imperial force.

Speaking on Wednesday at the 13th Extraordinary Summit of Heads of State and Government of ALBA-TCP, the Cuban leader also called on the regional organization and all the world people to condemn this attack by the Donald Trump administration.

From the Palace of the Revolution in Havana, Diaz-Canel warned that the aforementioned deployment, carried out under the pretext of combating drug cartels, is a strategic move that could facilitate actions under US law (Title 50 of the United States Code on War and National Defense).

"Imperialism, in the deployment of its hegemonic and aggressive offensive, demonstrates that it has no intention of deferring to the limits imposed by international law, the United Nations Charter, and decades of regional and universal resolutions and declarations against coercion, threats, interference in the internal affairs of other states, and intervention," he stated.

In this regard, the Cuban head of state warned about an announced prerogative that the United States government intends to grant its law enforcement agencies to act against criminal organizations within the borders of other states.

He emphasized that this constitutes an unacceptable threat of aggression, a violation of the sovereignty of nations in the region, and a further disruption of the regime of peace and cooperation that Latin American and Caribbean countries have worked so hard to guarantee.

In his speech, Diaz-Canel also denounced the encouragement and financing of terrorist plots against Venezuela, as well as the accusations leveled by the United States government against President Nicolas Maduro, which seek to link him to criminal organizations linked to drug trafficking.

"This is, once again, the type of maneuvers that imperialism resorts to when it harbors aggressive intentions against sovereign states, when it is unable to stifle the people's spirit of resistance and therefore needs a fraudulent pretext to justify its actions," he continued.

These threats, Cuban head of state commented, are part of a vile scheme of domination, determined to reactivate the Monroe Doctrine, the key to US interventionism.

The Cuban president's speech included a call for unity to confront the empire and reiterated Washington's intentions to subordinate the people of Latin America and the Caribbean to its interests.

He evoked the legacy of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, and his efforts for regional integration and unity.

He also recalled that the threats not only fall on countries like Venezuela, Nicaragua, and Cuba, "recently becoming favorite targets of the siege and unilateral coercive economic measures of the United States government, but also affect all people willing to decide their own destiny."

Diaz-Canel also demanded an end to the genocide in Gaza, asserting that Israeli Zionism and Yankee imperialism are trading roles in their criminal endeavors.
