HAVANA, Cuba, Aug 21 (ACN) Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega reiterated his support for Cuba and its president, Miguel Diaz-Canel, during the 13th Extraordinary Summit of the Bolivarian Alliance for the People of Our America-People's Trade Agreement (ALBA-TCP), Prensa Latina reported.
Ortega emphasized that the Cuban Revolution served as an example of resilience for Latin America and the Caribbean since its triumph in 1959 under the leadership of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz.
He recalled that this victory inspired other people in the region to defend their sovereignty, including Nicaragua, which achieved the triumph of the Sandinista Popular Revolution in 1979.
In his speech, he denounced the United States' attempts to destroy Cuba, Venezuela, and Nicaragua through blockades and sanctions, and insisted that these measures have not prevented improvements in the living conditions of their peoples.
The president pointed out that external aggression is spreading to other regions, referring to Washington's support for Israel's military actions against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip.
He indicated that these policies seek to dominate large areas of the Middle East, while the denunciations of international organizations are not echoed in the main multilateral forums.
Ortega emphasized that the Latin American and Caribbean region, declared a zone of peace, will continue to advance despite internal differences and external threats.
