Spanish activist Maria Teresa Pantoja was granted the Cuban Friendship Medal by presidential decree at the proposal of the Cuban Friendship Institute (ICAP) for her restless actions in support of the island nation and its people.

Miguel Diaz-Canel, president of the National Defense Council, visited today areas of the coastal municipality of Pilon, in the eastern province of Granma, where he is assessing damages and checking the recovery work after the strong earthquakes that shook eastern Cuba on Nov. 10.

Army General Raul Castro Ruz, leader of the Cuban Revolution, received on Thursday afternoon Lieutenant General Alexander Viacheslavovich Kurenkov, Minister of Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation, who paid a working visit to Cuba.

Miguel Diaz-Canel, President of the National Defense Council, urged to increase the seismic culture, during his working visit to the Geodynamic Observatory of the National Seismological Service (Cenais by its Spanish acronym) in order to evaluate the danger of earthquakes in the country, the state of the seismological and tsunami monitoring systems, and aspects of risk management, after the earthquakes that occurred last Sunday, November 10.

The executive secretary of the Foro de Sao Paulo (FSP) regional organization, Monica Valente and Cuban Communist Party Organization Secretary Roberto Morales stressed in Havana the role of the island nation in the promotion of regional unity.

Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel received Lieutenant General Alexander Vyacheslavovich Kurenkov, Minister of the Russian Federation for Civil Defense, Emergency Situations and Elimination of Consequences of Natural Disasters, whom he thanked for his country’s permanent assistance to the island in the face of emergencies.

The Latin American Medical School (ELAM) is an educational and social project and a bridge of solidarity and love in the world where more than 31,000 doctors from more than 120 countries have been qualified, said ELAM rector Yoanka Muro Valle.

In a post on X, Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel lamented the death of Dr. Jorge González Pérez, the eminent expert in Forensic Medicine who led the team that found the mortal remains of Che Guevara and his fallen comrades in Bolivia.

 As part of the government's development priorities, new actions of the international project FORMER-Cuba (Enhancing Women’s Leadership and Participation in Cuba’s Renewable Energy Sector) extend the use of renewable energy in the province of Holguin through the installation of solar panels and water heaters in health, science and service institutions, which helps reduce consumption of fossil fuels.

In a post on X, Cuba’s National Defense Council (NDC), headed by President Miguel Díaz-Canel, met with authorities from several provinces to go over the recovery effort in eastern and western provinces hit by recent hurricanes and earthquakes.

Scientists from local and other research entities are participating in the 3rd CAGUANES Conference on Biodiversity, an international event designed to address issues related to protected areas and environmental conservation.
