HAVANA, Cuba, Mar 19 (ACN) Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel attending the lecture "Media lessons of the Palestinian genocide: propaganda, silencing and informative resistance", given by the renowned Lebanese journalist Wafica Mehdi, director of the Spanish-language editorial office of the pan-Arab satellite channel Al Mayadeen, in closing the IV International Colloquium “Patria”.
The last sessions of the three-day conference’s program also included the panels "Reprogramming the Net: strategies to mitigate polarization and hate speech in digital environments", led by José Manzaneda, journalist and director of the Basque media Cubainformación, and "Technologies for emancipation: alternative communication and information sovereignty in the Global South", featuring the Venezuelan Jorge Arreaza, executive secretary of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America - Peoples' Trade Treaty, and the Bolivian university professor Sacha Llorenti.
Experts as renowned as Pascual Serrano and Carlos Penalva (Spain), Alina Duarte (Mexico) and Gabriela Rivadeneira (Colombia), among others from Argentina, Brazil, Ghana, India and Vietnam, will talk about the strategies of the global South in the face of the information hegemony of the West, the media as political actors, and consumption in the digital era.
Themed "We are peoples weaving networks", the IV International Colloquium “Patria” gathered almost 500 participants from more than 40 countries to discuss left-wing political communication in the face of the media war.
