Significant damages caused by the rains and winds associated with tropical storm Elsa have not been reported so far in the central and eastern provinces, informed today, in Havana, Lieutenant Colonel Gloria Gely Martinez, head of the Department of Disaster Reduction of the National Civil Defense General Staff (EMNDC by its Spanish acronym).

In view of the passage of tropical storm Elsa through the seas south of Cuba, the President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, informed today on Twitter that he has maintained communication with the presidents of the Defense Councils of the territories affected by the heavy showers and rains associated with the meteorological phenomenon.

Tropical storm Elsa continues its move towards the south coast of the Cuban central provinces and clouds associated with it already cover the eastern, central regions and up to Matanzas province.

Cuba is currently at 61 percent of its reservoir filling capacity, and there are possibilities of taking on three and a half billion cubic meters of water associated with tropical storm Elsa.

The Cuban weather institute said that clouds associate to Storm Elsa are covering the skies of the eastern, central and western Cuban regions.

 Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel used his Twitter account to call on the people to keep safe in protected areas to avoid fatalities and he also said discipline is crucial to overcome the natural phenomenon.
