Cuba is affected by a high COVID-19 transmission rate, as Dr. Francisco Durán, National Director of Epidemiology of the Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP), announced 923 new cases of infection, with the cities of Havana and Santiago de Cuba at the top of the list (461 and 117, respectively, in the last 24 hours).

Azan Villalona, 62, did not hesitate to volunteer for the clinical trials of a Covid-19 vaccine candidate known as Abdala, saying that he learned from a friend that they were calling for people with certain health conditions and decided to apply, thinking of his two grandchildren and all other children and old people in Cuba and the world at risk of becoming infected.

 “As a young doctor in training, I am happy that the authorities trust us in the fight against COVID-19 in view of the current difficult epidemiological situation of this city,” said Alexis Giraldo Araujo, political secretary of a Young Communist League Committee at the University of Medical Sciences (UCM), where first-year students are helping at an isolation center for suspected cases.

By the end of this year, experts expect that a Cuban vaccine against rabbit hemorrhagic disease, the main threat to the health of these animals, could be submitted for registration.

A multidisciplinary consultation to identify possible sequelae of COVID-19 in children who suffered from the disease, caused by the SARS CoV-2 coronavirus, will open in the Cuban province of Matanzas next February 22.

Cuba reported today 715 new positive cases of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which the National Director of Epidemiology, Dr. Francisco Duran Garcia, said that with this figure, this month will necessarily exceed the number of diagnosed cases in January (15,536).

Cuba studied 17,807 samples for COVID 19, resulting in 715 positive ones. The country accumulates 2,160,943 samples taken and 39,004 positive.

Much has been said about the need to maintain healthy eating habits, due to the multiple health conditions derived from obesity: high blood pressure, diabetes and circulatory or orthopedic problems, among others.
