Cuba continues the anti-Covid-19 clinical trial for patients in pediatric ages with the vaccination on Monday of 25 children aged between three and 11 years, Cuban PM Manuel Marrero Cruz reported on Twitter.

Over Five Million 591 thousand doses of locally developed COVID-19 candidate vaccines were administered in Cuba up to June 26, the Public Health Ministry (MINSAP) announced on Monday.

Phase One clinical trials on children of pediatric age with the local candidate vaccine SOBERANA 02 continued to advance Monday while Phase II on children from 12-18 years opened in a Havana hospital.

After several months of hard work for scientists at the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (CIGB), Abdala proved to be a safe anti-COVID-19 vaccine candidate, immunogenic and with an efficacy of 92.28% in the prevention of the symptomatic disease.

 The first clinical trial in children and adolescents, named Soberana-Pediatrics, will start next Monday with the inclusion of the second group of volunteers between the ages of three and 11, after it demonstrated its safety in the evaluation of the first 25 adolescents who received the first dose.

The efficacy of two doses of the anti-COVID-19 vaccine candidate Soberana 02 with Soberana Plus booster against the symptomatic disease is expected to be known next week, informed Dr. María Eugenia Toledo Romaní, principal investigator of the Phase III clinical trial of that immunogen.

An innovative study developed by the National Center for Scientific Research (CNIC) together with the Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP) seeks to reduce COVID-19’s adverse effects with the use of ozone therapy.

Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel wrote on his Twitter account on Wednesday that the most advanced local COVID-19 candidate vaccines will also help other nations of Latin America.

According to an official communiqué, the volunteers in the province of Guantánamo who randomly received placebos in phase III of the clinical trial with Abdala are being announced as everything is in place to proceed to their inoculation with a product proved to be a powerful anti-COVID-19 vaccine.

Cuba’s Health Ministry—MINSAP—reported that as of June 19 four million 855 thousand 270 doses of its COVID-19 candidate vaccines had already been administered as part of the development strategy for those locally developed biotech products.

The Cuban capital city has progressively reduced the number of new COVID-19 cases over the past 11 days, which proves the effectiveness of the measures adopted here to control the coronavirus, said Luis Antonio Torres First Communist Party Secretary in the province which became the epicenter of the pandemic.

Cuba studied 29,281 samples for COVID 19, resulting in 1,561 positive ones. The country accumulates 4, 825,077 samples taken and 169,365 positive.
