The U.S. Department of Transportation(DOT) announced on Thursday the reduction of the number of charter flights to Cuba to 3,600 trips per year, in response to a request made last January by Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

With the 15 new discharges, the number of people in Cuba who have recovered from COVID-19 has reached 1,704, but self-care measures must continue to be taken to avoid a new wave of the virus, Francisco Duran Garcia, national director of epidemiology at the ministry of public health, said at a press conference Monday.

Cuba tested 1,880 samples for COVID-19, resulting in eight positive ones. The country accumulated a total of 90,911 tests and 1,916 positive (2.1%).

As a result of the coordinating efforts undertaken in the last two weeks between the U.S. and Cuban authorities, Cuban citizens stranded in the United States in the midst of the current pandemic could return to national territory this Friday on two charter flights.

Cuba reiterates to the World Health Organization (WHO) and its member states the willingness to cooperate and share their modest experiences, said José Ángel Portal, Cuban Minister of Public Health, when speaking at the 73rd World Health Assembly.

Cuba studied 2,232 samples for COVID-19, with 10 positive results.  The country has collected 77,374 samples and 1,840 confirmed cases in total (2.4%).
