When Laura María García finished junior high school with outstanding grades, family and friends expected her to choose an elite pre-university center such as the Vocacional de Ciencias Exactas or a popular urban school. However, the then fifteen-year-old was clear about the path she would follow on her way to teaching.
“Since I was very young I loved the profession, so much so that I used to teach my own classmates. So I decided to enter the René Fraga Moreno Teacher Training School," says the now 22-year-old teacher who practices in the city of Matanzas.
“Some people questioned my decision at the time, but I stood my ground and did not stop until I graduated top of my class,” said the aspiring graduate in Education, mother of a two-year-old child, in statements to ACN.
García currently teaches Spanish Language, History and Civic Education to sixth graders, a challenging task for someone who takes integral education very seriously.
“I believe that in order to educate the new generations, you have to lead by example and teach human values,” she remarked.
Laura María also believes in a strong bond of empathy and affection with infants to gain their trust and make them feel at ease, with patience and, above all, instilling in them a love for people and the important things in their lives.
Nevertheless, Laura María is still striving to discover the exact methodology to properly educate her usually very restless, talkative and witty child to whom she does not dedicate as much time as she would like for reasons of work.
“I try to keep him busy and motivated all the time, teaching him nursery rhymes and reading him poems he likes," she says with a smile on her face.
