Havana, February 18 (ACN) Cuba presented more than 20 initiatives to the 6th Oscar Arnulfo Romero Ibero-American Education Award granted by the Organization of Ibero-American States for Education, Science and Culture (OEI) in recognition of best educational practices to promote human rights, a culture of peace, sustainable development, and global citizenship.
Prevailing among the topics submitted by Cuba are social inclusion, child protection, and culture as a driver of transformation, complemented by approaches to gender, disability, the environment, and health, all of them contributed by universities, civil society organizations, community and sociocultural projects, cultural institutions, public health agencies, and local development projects.
Cuba has participated in every edition of the award since its inception in 2015 with recognized initiatives such as the school “Solidaridad con Panamá”, the program “Educa a tu hijo”, the special school Dora Alonso, and the project Palomas.
As part of the Ibero-American Program for Education in Human Rights, Democracy, and Equality, the competition reflects the commitment of the OEI and its member states to the 2030 Agenda, based on a multidimensional approach to the promotion of robust, human rights-oriented institutions and the consolidation of responsible citizenship.
The Ibero-American awards ceremony will be held in Spain in June 2026 as part of the VI Ibero-American Meeting on Human Rights Education.
Under the motto "We Make Cooperation Happen," the OEI is, since it was established in 1949, the first intergovernmental organization for South-South cooperation organization in Ibero-America, and it is made up of 23 member states.
