HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 22 (ACN) A workshop on Nuclear Analytical Techniques at the service of food safety organized by the Center for Radiation Protection and Hygiene (CPHR) is under way at the Tryp Habana Libre Hotel.
One of its main topics is about Strengthening Regional Cooperation among Official Laboratories to deal with emerging challenges in food safety, whereas the improvement of national capacities is also top of the agenda.
The Network of Nuclear Communicators (RECNUC) also reported that Cuban specialists will speak about the role of nuclear techniques in food traceability and authenticity, as well as the importance of accreditation of food contaminant testing laboratories and their regional database.
One session will address the National Network of Food Analysis Laboratories (RENLAA), the Inter-American Network of Food Analysis Laboratories (RILAA) and the Latin American and Caribbean Analytical Network (RALACA).
Isis María Fernández Gómez, head of the Environmental Radiological Surveillance Laboratory of the CPHR, is the organizer of this event which will feature speakers from the Nuclear Energy and Advanced Technologies Agency, the National Accreditation Body of the Republic of Cuba (ONARC), the National Institute of Hygiene Epidemiology and Microbiology (INHEM) and the National Laboratory of Food Hygiene (LNHA).
Designed for the 2021-2022 period, this project is part of the Nuclear, Laser, Optical and Ultrasonic Applications Technologies to produce and market goods and services (NUOLU), an initiative of the Regional Cooperation Agreement for the Promotion of Nuclear Science and Technology in Latin America and the Caribbean (ARCAL), which is in keeping with the Food Safety Policy approved in Cuba in 2017.
