Ernesto’s choice: Always an educator

MANZANILLO, Cuba, Dec 22 (ACN) Ernesto Reytor García, a resident of this city in eastern Cuba, was one of those children who grew up watching their mothers in front of a class. Proud of knowing that she was essential for her students, the desire to become an educator started to grow on him.

“Ever since he took his first steps in life, I learned to love such a noble and fundamental profession and, finally, fate smiled on me,” this young graduate in Education who majored in Spanish Literature told ACN.

He graduated in 2004 and joined a contingent in his native province of Granma that reinforced the educational coverage in central Cuba.

"I returned to my hometown after fulfilling my mission twelve months later and then, and as member of a special reserve, I was called to work at the then Blas Roca Calderío University of Pedagogical Sciences, currently attached to the provincial university,” he added. “I have worked there for 16 years, proud to be part of the faculty that contributed to my own professional formation. Having my old teachers now as colleagues is difficult, but it is also an honor, because I am the fruit of their dedication. They and my mother are paradigms in which I recognize and sustain myself.
As all of Cuba celebrates Teachers' Day on December 22—on the 60th anniversary of the memorable Literacy Campaign of 1961—Reytor García highlights the countless scientific and methodological challenges to self-improvement and preparation facing the exercise of the teaching profession, in his case from a university.

Among his most pleasant experiences is an internationalist mission in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, where he taught the children of the Cuban diplomatic corps and prepared those who were about to deal with university entrance examinations.
Nowadays, Ernesto has his eyes set on a Doctor’s Degree in Pedagogical Sciences and is thinking of the development of semiotic competence in future Bachelors of Spanish Literature Education as the subject of the thesis work he plans to defend in 2022 to earn his scientific degree.
