SANTA CLARA, Cuba, Dec 23 (ACN) Carrying 289 passengers from Warsaw and with Itaka as its tour operator, the Polish airline Lot began flying today to the Abel Santamaría International Airport in this city.
Itaka is a Polish tour operator that covers several countries such as Spain and other nations of the Old Continent.
In statements to the press, Mildred González González, deputy delegate of the Ministry of Tourism (MINTUR) in the city of Villa Clara, said that the Polish tourists are bound for Cayo Santamaría, one of the main poles of the Cuban industry without chimneys.
“It is really very good for us to have a greater diversity of clients so we can expand our local products,” she said. “Canada is still our main market, but the influx of tourists from other nations will make it possible to receive this flight with a weekly frequency. (…) We have made great quality improvements in terms of a healthier and safer tourism, so we are convinced that our customers will be delighted.”
After almost a year of idleness due to COVID-19, the Abel Santamaría International Airport resumed commercial operations on November 2 with a flight of the Canadian airline Sunwing Airlines from Toronto.
This air terminal got ready in view of the new health protocols and took the relevant measures, for instance, posting signs telling each person where they must stand for the sake of social distancing, enforcing the use of face masks and hand hygiene, and checking the inbound traveler’s relevant health documentation.
