Pianists Ray Lema (Democratic Republic of Congo) and Laurent de Wilde (France) are two of the foreign artists who enhance the prestige of the 2022 Jazz Plaza International Festival, to be held until Sunday Jan. 23 in Havana and Santiago de Cuba.

The first day of the International Jazz Colloquium did homage to Cuban music with two major events: Trompeta en duelo mayor por el Greco. Homage to José Miguel Greco, based on a discussion of the great musician’s artistic career, and performances by talented trumpet players such as Julio Padrón, Roberto García, Mayquel González and Yasek Manzano.

The Acosta Danza company, led by first dancer Carlos Acosta, will present the season 100%cubano (100% Cuban) at Teatro Nacional de Cuba’s Avellaneda Hall on January 28, 29 and 30 after being inactive for a whole year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

US-based Cuban musician Ignacio “Nachito” Herrera arrived in Havana on Tuesday to participate at Jazz Plaza Festival and brought a donation of medical equipment and musical instruments to the island.

The International Jazz Plaza Festival will hold its 37th edition on January 18 to 23 at Havana’s Teatro Nacional de Cuba, the Tito Junco Hall of the Bertolt Brecht Center, and the America Theater,

Cuban Culture minister Alpidio Alonso praised the opening in Panama of a visual arts gallery to exhibit works on Cuban national culture and identity.

 As a continuation of three exhibitions organized last December, the Day of Francophone Comics kicks off today in this city with panels and workshops attended by guest artists from Belgium, France and Switzerland (Canada will not participate because of the epidemiological situation).
