Yoandry Iriarte, only Cuban fencer qualified for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, will compete in the Grand Prix of Moscow, Russia, from May 27 to 28, with the intention of improving positions in the world ranking.

Dayaris Mestre will be the first Cuban competing today, on the first day of the Judo Grand Prix of Almaty, Kazakhstan, seeking to improve her position in the Olympic ranking.
According to the website of the contest, Mestre (48 kilograms) will debut against the winner of the bout between Venezuelan Maria Guedes and Russian Maria Persidskaia.

Cuba qualified to the coming Futsal World Cup to be held in September in the Colombian city of Cali, along Costa Rica, Guatemala and Panama.

Cuba lost 6-0 (4-0) to Costa Rica on the second day of group B of the 2016 CONCACAF Futsal Championship which takes place on that nation and grants four tickets to the World Cup in Cali, Colombia, in September.

Returning to the Olympics 16 years later will be the goal of the Cuban women's basketball team that will seek in France, from June 13 to 19, the long-awaited ticket to the summer event of coming August in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Hungarian Zoltan Almasi, Bulgarian Ivan Cheparinov and Ukrainian Yuri Krivoruchko will complete the roster of the Elite group of the Capablanca Memorial Chess Tournament scheduled for Varadero from June 8 to 20.

The Cuban futsal squad, composed of 14 players, will leave today to Costa Rica, to attend the CONCACAF championship of the sport, scheduled from May 8 to 14 at the BN Arena, in Hatillo.
