Argilagos and Savon, first Cuban boxers to fight in Rio

Argilagos and Savon, first Cuban boxers to fight in RioRIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil, Aug 5 (acn) Light flyweight Joahnys Argilagos and cruiser Erislandy Savon will assume next Monday the first Cuban boxing commitments in the 31st Olympic Games opened today in this city.

They both were bye in the first rounds of their respective divisions, as it will happen with seven other members of their squad which underwent a training morning session outside the building occupied by Cuban delegation at the village.
Argilagos, world champion, was drawn as number one and will face the winner of the bout between Cameroon´s Simplice Fotsala and British Galal Yafai and should open the triumphant path of his team, because he steps into the ring in the morning.
Savon, universal silver medalist and second seed in his division, will fight at night versus the winner between British Lawrence Okolie and Polish Igor Jakubowski at the Riocentro Complex.
The only Cuban who was not bye in the first outing was the defending champion Robeisy Ramírez, which means having six bouts to reach the crown.
Lazaro Alvarez, number one in the 60 kilograms, will climb into the ring on August 9th against the winner of the match between Mexican Lindolfo Delgado and Italian Carmine Tommasone.
A day later, Julio Cesar La Cruz, leader of the 81 kilos, will rival Turkish Nadir Unal because his rival, Moroccan Hassan Saada, has been arrested today on rape charges.
On August 11 th, Robeisy Ramirez, who ranks sixth in the 56 kilos, will clash with Indian Shiva Thapa, while Roniel Iglesias, number four in the 69 kilos, will have as opponent to the winner of the fight between Fiji´s Winston Hill and Armenian Vladimir Margaryan.
Arlen Lopez, king in the 75 kilos, will fight on August 12th versus the winner between Adan Harcsa (HUN) and Arslanbek Achilov (TKM), while Leinier Peró, fifth in over 91 kilos, will rival Guido Vianello (ITA), also bye on the first round.
On August 14, Yasnier Toledo, second in the 64 kilos, will face the victor between Ablain Zhussupov (KAZ) and Pat Mc Cormack (UK), while a day later, Yosbany Veitía, second in the 52 kilos, will rival the winner between Achraf Kharroubi (MAR) and Moroke Mokhotho (LES).
According to the draw, the boxing tournament of Rio 2016 will be attended by 250 athletes.
