RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil, Aug 1 (acn) After becoming four years ago the first Cuban table tennis player winning a game in Olympic Games, Andy Pereira expects having a better performance in the event that starts next Friday in this city.
I'm focused on giving the best of me, trying to advance one more round, that is winning twice, he said in the gymnasium of the village, chosen for the morning session shared with countryman Moises Campos.
Now I'm more experienced, and although we do not play all international matches desired, we did take advantage of the ones played and now we're going to fight for the result, he said.
The debutant Campos said "it is already an honor" qualifying for the Olympics and praised the level gathered here, but he was clear in saying that attending the Games is only one of their goals, and added the positive aspect of having a partner with Olympic experience.
Andy is ranked in 57th and Campos 61st among the 86 players registered, noted Barbaro Oliva, Cuba´s national table tennis commissioner.
Oliva added that 41 contestants of the total amount were trained in China .
Cuba starred its Olympic debut in Barcelona 1992 and repeated in Sydney 2000, but the merit of the first win was provided by Andy at the ExCel complex in London 2012.
