RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil, Aug 10 (acn) Cuban Asley González (90kg) was eliminated today in the second round of the judo tournament of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, which hosts this Brazilian city.
Gonzalez, London 2012 silver medalist, lost by hansoku-make (four shidos) to Otgonbaatar Lkhagvasuren, from Mongolia, who had previously defeated the Cuba athlete at the World Championships last year.
With this loss, Gonzalez said goodbye to the Olympics without options to reach the awards podium, as it happened in the British capital.
The native of the Villa Clara province and owner of the gold medal in the 2013 world championship, Gonzalez had previously beaten in the Olympics of Rio de Janeiro Bolivian Martin Michel and Ukrainian Quedjau Nhabali.
Cuban judo remains without medals in the Brazilian city, with the fifth seat by Dayaris Mestre (48 kilos) as best result so far.
The world runner-up Jose Armenteros (100) and Yalennis Castillo (78), Beijing 2008 silver medalist, will be the representatives for the Caribbean nation tomorrow in the judo tournament and they will rival Tuvshinbayar Naidan, from Mongolia; and Dutch Marhinde Verkerk, respectively.
