Rio: Three-time world boxing champion La Cruz debuts with easy victory

RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil, Aug 10 (acn) Cuban Julio Cesar La Cruz (81 kg) debuted today with easy win against Turkish Mehmet Nadir Unal in the boxing tournament of the Olympic Games hosted by this Brazilian city.

La Cruz, three times world champion, won 3-0 (30-25, 30-27 and 30-27), in a fight he dominated from start to finish supported by his good defense and accurate counterattacks.
With this result, Cuban boxers reached their fifth victory without losses in the Olympics, to which they came with serious pretensions to win several medals.
Also today, Johanys Argilagos (49) secured the bronze medal after defeating 3-0 (30-27, 30-27 and 30-26) Kenyan Peter Mungai Warui.
Argilagos, last year universal monarch, will face in semifinals Colombian Yuberjen Martinez.
The also Cuban Erislandy Savon (91) will face today Argentine Yamil Alberto Peralta seeking his ticket to semifinals.
Meanwhile, Robeisy Ramirez (56) and Roniel Iglesias (69), London 2012 Olympic champions in their respective lower divisions, will debut tomorrow for the Caribbean nation.
In the case of Ramirez, he will be opponent of Indian Shiva Thapa, while Iglesias will rival Armenian Vladimir Margaryan.
