With their arrival in the eastern province of Santiago de Cuba to evaluate the imaging network of the health sector and build joint solutions in favor of the demanded service, specialists from Switzerland ratified the solidarity support to medical assistance in the territory.

On the occasion of today's World Parkinson's Day, Dr. Javier Vicente Sanchez, from the Cuban Institute of Neurology and Neurosurgery, highlighted the efforts of the Cuban health system in the comprehensive care of people suffering from this neurodegenerative disease to improve their quality of life.

The introduction of 28 new products, among which the Quimi-Vio vaccine stands out in the National Immunization Program, with more than 70,000 two-year-old children already vaccinated, was the main achievement of the Cuban biotechnology industry in 2024, said the annual assessment of the Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical Industry Business Group in Cuba (BioCubafarma).

The 2024 was a year of great challenges for health sector workers, who with professionalism and hard work guaranteed the vitality of services in the midst of complex situations such as the passage of two hurricanes, the occurrence of earthquakes and the disconnections of the National Electric System, highlighted Jose Angel Portal Miranda, Cuban minister of public health, in the annual report of the institution.

With the opening on Monday of the IV International Convention on Science and Conscience, the University of Oriente (UO), in the eastern province of Santiago de Cuba, highlights the global scientific activity dedicated to boosting local and sustainable development.

Reducing maternal and infant mortality rates in Cuba, with the goal of reaching 6.9 per 1,000 indicator births by 2025 and a figure of less than 40 per 100,000 pregnant women, is today an objective of the Caribbean nation's health system.

"In the early morning hours of Sunday, April 5, we learned the unfortunate news of the death of 10-year-old Geobel Damir Ortiz Ramirez," reads a statement issued by the Institute of Hematology and Immunology on the death of the little boy.

The Un Abril por la Pediatría (An April for Pediatrics) campaign will be carried out throughout Cuba this month to highlight the importance of children's health and the work of professionals in their care, and to promote various actions to raise awareness about the challenges in this area of medicine.

A day of scientific activities and community interventions will be held in Cuba to celebrate World Health Day on April 7, dedicated this year to maternal and newborn health, under the slogan "Healthy beginnings, hopeful futures," health authorities announced today at a press conference.
