Cuba praises the results of its Biotechnology

 

HAVANA, Cuba, Jun 16 (ACN) On the International Day of Biotechnology, Cuban authorities praise today the country's valuable contributions in the sector, and recognize in them the result of the vision of the historic leader of the Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz.

Esteban Lazo Hernandez, president of the National Assembly of People's Power and the Council of State, highlighted the self-sacrificing and committed work of Cuban biotechnology professionals.

On X, Lazo Hernandez assured that the results achieved in this sector are the pride of the Homeland.

He also highlighted the role of the Commander in Chief in the development of Cuban biotechnology: both in its foundation and in the priority given to its promotion.

In this regard, Prime Minister Manuel Marrero stressed on the same social network: “The fact that Cuba is a reference in this field, worldwide, is due to Fidel's vision”.

He also congratulated those in this sector who are overcoming the obstacles of the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States, in pursuit of the country's development.

The Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment in its official X also recognized the relevant contributions made by this scientific discipline to the development of medicine, agriculture, industry, environmental protection and other areas.

The scientific-industrial complex that today constitutes Cuban biotechnology had its first stage of development in 1982, with the creation of the Biological Research Center, where Interferon was conceived and produced.

Five years later, on July 1, 1986, the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (CIGB) was created by Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, and from then on, new entities were created that joined the Scientific Pole in 1992 and, subsequently, BioCubaFarma, established in 2012.

Currently, this Business Group is made up of 48 companies (34 in Cuba and 14 abroad), eight of which hold the status of High Technology Company.

Its human capital is highly qualified and is made up of more than 15,000 workers.
