With the aim of expanding medical collaboration between Cuba and the Maldives, both nations signed today a cooperation agreement that will also strengthen the ties between their health systems.

The Pedro Kouri Institute of Tropical Medicine (IPK) has received financial support from the French Development Agency (AFD by its French acronym) to carry out the Project to Strengthen National Capacities for Surveillance and Diagnosis of Infectious Diseases.
The support budget amounts to 5.6 million euros as a non-reimbursable fund and will be used to cover the project's needs in terms of laboratory supplies, reagents, transport and climate equipment.

A news release by the Cuban Health Ministry reads that following the appearance in the world of the COVID-19 omicron variant, Cuba strengthened epidemiological surveillance measure in the country, on international travelers particularly those coming from the countries who have reported cases.
