SANTIAGO DE CUBA, the first city Fidel Castro came to know at the age of six, had a definitive impact on his patriotic feelings and has become nowadays a symbol of the rebelliousness, resistance and perseverance of the Commander-in-Chief.

In posts on X, Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel and Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parilla expressed their solidarity with the people of Brazil and the government of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva for the fatal plane crash in São Paulo on Friday and sent condolences to the families of the victims.

The Havana-based UNDP Cuba Office will launch a multinational capacity-building project to improve the safety and resilience against weather events of critical infrastructure in Cuba, the Dominican Republic and Haiti with financial support of the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI) of the Infrastructure for Resilient Island States Program.

The book Privilegiados del tiempo: Recuerdos de periodistas de la radio y la televisión(Privileged of Time: Memories of Radio and Television Journalists) was presented in Havana to commemorate the 98th anniversary of the birth of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, to be celebrated on August 13.

Yamila Peña Ojeda, attorney general of the Republic, recalled the legacy of Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz in legislative processes under way in the country, such as the approval of the Social Communication Act, and stressed that the undisputed leader of the Cuban Revolution was an excellent communicator in the way he conveyed information and got his views across.

Fidel raised, so to speak, an island brimming with humanism, happy children with much or little, and resilience and peace, and it’s up to us to fertilize, look after, and boost the growth of those roots that the Commander in Chief planted, says Flavia de los Angeles Contreras Vega, a young woman who is now doing her Military Service.

In a post on X, Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel expressed his gratitude for the support received from 123 countries that signed a statement at the Human Rights Council demanding the exclusion of Cuba from the list of State sponsors of terrorism.

The U.S. Coast Guard returned to Cuba 32 irregular migrants (26 men and 6 women) who had illegally departed from the island and were eventually intercepted at sea, the Ministry of the Interior announced on its official website.

A total of 187 students from 25 countries have just graduated from the University of Medical Sciences of Havana (UCMH) has just graduated 187, graduates of the different branches during the 2023-2024 academic year.

In statements to the media, the Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP) and UNICEF’s Cuba Office announced that the island is joining the celebrations of World Breastfeeding Week, to be observed on August 1 to 7 by more than 170 countries.
