Cuba thanks support at Human Rights Council

HAVANA, Cuba, Jul 31 (ACN) In a post on X, Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel expressed his gratitude for the support received from 123 countries that signed a statement at the Human Rights Council demanding the exclusion of Cuba from the list of State sponsors of terrorism.

Signed on July 27, the document points out that this list is at odds with the fundamental principles and imperative norms of International Law, including international solidarity, and is based on a process of designation that is neither clear nor transparent.

“The permanence of Cuba on that list has extraordinarily negative consequences for the Cuban economy, due to its intimidating effect and the obstacle to economic-financial operations of third parties with Cuba, for fear of being fined. It also hinders the country's access to food, medicines, fuel, medical equipment and other basic goods, which impacts the realization of economic, social and cultural rights”, the text holds.

The statement concludes by proposing that, instead of imposing unilateral coercive measures contrary to international law, international solidarity and cooperation should be fostered to address common challenges, promote and protect all human rights for all and achieve sustainable development goals.
