HAVANA, Cuba, Jul 30 (ACN) A total of 187 students from 25 countries have just graduated from the University of Medical Sciences of Havana (UCMH) has just graduated 187, graduates of the different branches during the 2023-2024 academic year.
Speaking on behalf of the new health professionals at the graduation ceremony held in UCMH’s Main Lecture Hall, the Colombian Xiomi Bibianny Giraldo, whose results as a student leader earned her the school’s Fructuoso Rodríguez Distinction, stressed that their degrees not only represent their individual effort but also Cuba’s commitment to health care as a fundamental right.
“Today begins for all of us the challenge of a working life and the noblest and most humane of duties: saving lives anywhere in the world,” she said. “Cuba is for all of us a second homeland where we have been superbly welcome in the last seven years and treated as brothers and sisters regardless of race, creed or origin, united by the passion for Medicine”.
On her end, USMH rector Mairim Lago Queija praised the performance of the newly graduates, assured that they will contribute to the improvement of humanity, and highlighted the legacy of Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, the greatest health professional and main promoter of the internationalist vocation of the Cuban health system and the training of doctors in the island.
